Important elements when selecting lenses

  • Types of lenses
  • Material
  • Index or thickness of the lens
  • Coats on lenses

TYPES OF LENSES

Single Vision Lenses

Single vision spectacle lenses are lenses with a single focus point that are used to correct only distance vision or near vision or intermediate vision. Most people under the age of 40 need only a single vision correction.

Bifocal Lenses

Bifocal spectacle lenses are lenses with two focus points – distance and near vision. In bifocal lenses the demarcation between two zones is clearly visible. The upper portion of bifocal lenses is used for distance vision and the lower portion is used for near vision (reading purpose).

Progressive lenses

Progressive lenses provide continuous vision zones from distance to near including intermediate vision. Progressive lenses have no clear demarcation between the varying zones thus offering a good cosmetic appeal for users. Progressive lenses are also a better option to suit computer usage. They are the best lens choice for users above 40 years of age.

At  BHAYANI OPTICIANS  These lenses are available in plastic, glass and polycarbonate materials

MATERIAL

Material of the lens is crucial in determining the overall quality of the spectacles. Better the lens material, higher the clarity and resilience to chemical, temperature & mechanical wear.

MR material

MR material is a special high quality plastic resin and is considered to be one of the best materials for spectacle lenses.

This material offers better coating compatibility than other types of lenses.

Lenses made of MR material offer good lens design flexibility making it the perfect fit for rimless frames and frames having a high curve design.

MR material lenses are available in varying High Refractive Indexes thus making the lens thinner and lighter.

At  BHAYANI OPTICIANS, we offer MR lenses in 3 indexes – 1.6, 1.67 & 1.74.

Polycarbonate Material

Polycarbonate lenses are 25% thinner than regular plastic (CR39 material) lenses and almost 50% lighter than glass lenses.

They have a very high impact resistance – 10 times stronger than regular plastic (CR 39 material) lenses.

Polycarbonate lenses are used for safety glasses, sports sunglasses and children’s eyewear.

Polycarbonate lenses are very light and can be ground quite fine into thin lenses.Hence, they are highly recommended for use in rimless frames.

Polycarbonate material blocks 100% UV radiation and thus protects the eyes from the damaging rays of the sun. This is also why most sunglasses lenses are made out of polycarbonate material.

At Bhayani Opticians, we offer polycarbonate material lenses in 1.59 index.

CR 39 Material Lenses

CR 39 material or regular plastic lens material is thicker than glass and offers high transparency and good visual clarity.

CR 39 material is popular owing to its lightness and shatter resistance as compared to glass lenses.

At Bhayani opticians, we offer CR39 material regular plastic lenses in 1.5 index and also a Middle Index material which is 15% thinne

Mineral / Glass Material Lenses

Glass has excellent optical properties and is highly scratch resistant.

Lenses made of glass tend to be heavy (50% heavier than plastic lenses) and have the least impact resistance making them brittle. Therefore glass lenses not widely used now-a-days. Glass lenses are 50% heavier than plastic lenses and the least impact resistant

At  Bhayani opticians, we offer mineral / glass material lenses

Index

Lens index is a number that describes how thick or thin your lenses are. The higher a lens’ index is, the thinner it becomes. Higher prescriptions require higher index lenses, while lower prescriptions require lower index lenses.

1.5                        1.59                 1..6             1.67                 1.74

1.5 Index   Lens – Standard Lens

CR 39 material or regular plastic lens material is thicker than glass and offers high transparency and good visual clarity.

CR 39 material is popular owing to its lightness and shatter resistance as compared to glass lenses.

1.59 Index – Polycarbonate Lens

Lenses in this index are made out of a special polycarbonate material. This means they include 100% UV protection. They’re durable and impact-resistant, which also makes them perfect for everyone with most prescriptions. Active people and children as well

1.6 Index – Super Thin

Now we’re entering “high index lens” territory. Stylish and super-thin, these lenses are an excellent choice for people with strong prescriptions around SPH +/-4.25 and +/-6.75, and CYL corrections around +/-2.25 and +/-3.00.

1.67 Index – Ultra Thin

These lens are even thinner. If you have particularly strong vision needs (SPH corrections around +/-7.00 and +/-9.00, and CYL corrections around +/-3.25 and +/-4.00) these are the best choice for you.

1.74 Index – As Thin As Possible

Any thinner and they would disappear! These stylish lightweight lenses are best for prescriptions with SPH corrections around +/-9.25 and above, and CYL corrections around +/-4.25 and +/-6.00.

Anti-Scratch Coating at EyeBuyDirect

Scratch Resistance Coating

  • . Scratch-resistant coating or hard coating provides lenses with durability and increased longevity. A high quality thermally cured hard coat provides the best scratch resistance and provides for the most durable ingredient for an AR coating application.

Anti-Reflective Coating

Anti-reflective, or AR coating eliminates annoying glare on your lenses and reduces the reflections caused by computers, automobile headlights, and more, so that the only reflections you see are the ones in your mirror—and the only thing your admirers see is you.

Light Adjusting Coating

This coating darkens and lightens according to exposure to sunlight, becoming dark outdoors and clear indoors. An added benefit is that This lenses shield eyes from UVA and UVB rays. This option cannot be applied with other sunwear options. We offer premium Transitions™ and basic photochromic lenses.

Solid Tint Coating

Unlike Photochromic Lenses, solid tint lens coatings remain tinted at all times. Tints of virtually any color or darkness can be applied to eyeglass lenses. Lighter fashionable tints are often used primarily for cosmetic purposes while dark tinting can turn any pair of glasses into sunglasses. Additionally the color can be added as a solid tint where the darkness and color are consistent throughout, or as a gradient tint where the color darkness is greatest at the top of the lens and then gradually fades

toward the bottom. There are plenty of options here for customization.

At Bhayani opticians, we offer tints for most of our spectacle lenses. Tints are available in many colours

Polarized Coating

Polarized lenses contain a laminated filter that allows only vertically oriented light to pass through. This blocks the horizontally oriented light so that glare is almost eliminated.

This safety coating reduces the annoying, and sometimes dangerous, reflections that water and roads can create on your lenses, making it especially handy for activities like driving, running, and biking. It comes in standard dark green, dark brown, or dark gray tint.

Mirrored Tint Coating

Add a little bit of mystique to your look with mirrored coating on your lenses. Mirrored lenses are functional and fashionable sunglasses with that little extra flash. This reflective coating comes in gold, silver, and blue.

Water Repellant Coating

Water repellant coating keeps water drop, dirt, and smudges off your lenses while making them easier to clean. Lenses with this premium coating stay sparkling twice as long.

UV Protective Coating

This invisible coating works like sunscreen for your eyes by deflecting harmful UV rays from the sun before they can damage your eyes, and it is included for no extra charge with our polycarbonate (1.59) lenses.s
